POCKET FULL OF GENRES

As a reader (or writer)…
You probably have a favorite genre of books.
What is it about that genre that draws you in?
Are you a romantic at heart…
And love love stories with happy endings?
Do you feel the excitement and intrigue of thrillers and spy novels?
Maybe you fantasize about other worlds or realms?
Perhaps you like to be taken away to far away places in the galaxy?
Or you like being on edge and having the bejeebers scared out of you…
By horror novels.
Obviously, there many more genres…
And each has it’s own allure…
That, with the words of the author...
Your mind builds a fantasy world…
That transcends you to new places, times, and circumstances...
With characters and creatures that stretch the imagination.
I like to think of my time when reading (and writing)
As being taken away to a secret place, a sweet escape.
That’s why the lyrics...
From Natasha Bedingfield’s song, Pocket Full of Sunshine
Resonates with me.
So?
What genre lets you escape to a secret place?
And what is it about that genre…
That fascinates and draws you in?

Always, Em-Musing

Hello - I'm new here. I am a weirdo in the sense that I write but I seldom finish books. the last book I finished all the way through is Lucky Bones. I am not a fan of sci-fi or any of the vampire books. a story has to feel real to suck me in. I read Lucky Bones a few years after my son died and I wanted to believe it was real. I also finished the 5 people you meet in heaven (?) - again, trying to convince myself it was real. Right now I'm reading Growing up in Heaven by James Van Praagh. It was a gift.Again, hoping it real So... I guess my answer is non fiction. memoirs, self help and such.

My tastes in books could definitely be called eclectic. I read everything from sweet, girlie stories, passionate romances, epic time-traveller sagas, hard-boiled mysteries, and the very dark and twisted. It keeps things interesting.

Nice post. I'm a paranormal girl, here, both reading and writing. Though, I do find I have a few contemporary ideas kicking around in my brain. One is drafted, another one I want to at least draft soon.

Great post! I must admit I'm a romance girl at heart. If I'm going to deviate, it's probably going to be paranormal. I love a little fantasy!

Love action/adventure/thriller/spy stories with a lot of romance thrown in! If I can't be a spy or adventurer in real life (maybe my next life, but not this one!), I can at least read--and write--about them.

I'm a romantic-at-heart but I do love anything upbeat that leaves me feeling good after I close the book.
